Mindfulness is the practice of being in the present moment with open, non-judging, and tender attention. Like every living being, humans have evolved in relationship with the Earth. However, modern culture has contributed to a disconnect from the land we inhabit. Mindfulness meditation helps us return to our natural state of being with a greater awareness of the world around us.

In this class, you’ll learn mindful practices to reconnect with this planet, your own “wild and precious life”, and the people in your community. The class will take place beneath the wise trees of the Longfellow Arboretum in Payson Park and will include nature-based mindfulness activities, guided meditation, and community connection infused with love, wonder, and compassion.

This class was inspired by Cassiah’s love for nature and curiosity about its impact on human consciousness and well-being. Rabbit holes have drawn her to what’s known as the “biophilia hypothesis;” the research-supported idea that humans have an innate affinity for nature, and time spent in nature positively impacts mental and physical health. Of course, this offering also blossomed from her own joyful and magical experiences practicing meditation and mindful exploration outside, which she wants to share with others.

ACCESSIBILITY NOTE

If you have specific questions about accessibility, please reach out to Davinica at davinica@kaneel.me.

Cost: Nobody will be turned away for a lack of funds. Please reach out to Davinica at davinica@kaneel.me to figure out a cost that feels accessible to you.

Parking: There is parking available in the park near the tennis courts and baseball diamonds. If you need to be within a closer walking distance to where we'll meet, you can park on Brookside Rd. and cross the grass, but please be mindful of the people that live on this street.

Location: Wheelchair information coming soon! We will spend most of our time on lawn-style grass, seated in stillness (though if you need to get up and move, you can). The estimated grade is gentle (5% or less).

Activity: This class is taught orally. If you need visual materials, please let us know by August 15, 2025, by emailing Davinica at davinica@kaneel.me.

Restrooms: There is an accessible all-gender toilet in the park by the basketball court. A vault toilet is a permanent, waterless bathroom that sits above a vault or “pit” that is serviced by a waste management company. Vault restrooms do not require plumbing or electricity. The toilet is a short walk down from the Arboretum.
